Founded In 1884
Saint George Hospital University Medical Center, deeply rooted in tradition and compassion, began its noble mission 145 years ago when seven visionary community leaders established The Committee to Assist Needy Patients. This initiative quickly evolved into a cornerstone of healthcare with the opening of a small clinic in 1878, donated by Mr. Panayot Fakhoury. By 1881, it was formally named Saint George Hospital for the Orthodox, marking the beginning of a long-standing tradition of service and medical excellence.
The hospital has consistently been at the forefront of medical innovation, recognized as Lebanon’s first national hospital in 1884. Through years of expansion and dedication, it has grown into a major medical institution, becoming the first in the Middle East to adopt specialized surgical procedures post-World War II. The resilience of Saint George Hospital was particularly notable in 1983 when, amidst civil conflict, it celebrated its 100th anniversary and was declared a University Medical Center, symbolizing its commitment to healthcare delivery and medical education.
In today's dynamic healthcare environment, Saint George Hospital University Medical Center distinguishes itself as a vital institution with an array of strengths that uniquely position it at the forefront of medical care in the region. The excellence of Saint George Hospital is amplified by its exceptional medical team, whose dedication to quality care is unmatched. With a commitment to leveraging the latest medical technologies and advancements, the Hospital offers comprehensive services that cater to patients of all ages, from neonates to the elderly.
